With more than 650,000 visitors per year, the Nordkette Cable Railways in Innsbruck count among the most popular attractions in Austria today, and the most popular cable railways in Europe.In no other place in the world is the dividing line between an urban area and rugged mountain terrain so thin. The Nordkette cable railways transport visitors directly from Innsbruck‘s city centre to high alpine terrain in just twenty minutes.
There are three stations: you can go to the first or second and come back, you can take a break at the intermediate station and go up to the top.
“Hungerburg” is located at an altitude of only 300 meters above the city, but offers an indescribable view of it and the surrounding area. The main advantage of the station is that in cloudy weather you will still see the beauty opening from the observation deck: the clouds rarely drop lower. This is a popular site for photographers.
“Seegrube” – height 1900 meters. In cloudless weather, not only Innsbruck is visible here, but also other objects: the Intal and Wiptal valleys, the Stubai glacier, the mountain peaks of the Zillertal region.
“Hafelekar” is the highest point of the ski lift, height 2334 meters. Tourists will enjoy an indescribable view of the Karwendel Alps with the Grossglockner peak: they create an excellent contrast with the populated Intal Valley.
Each station leads not only to observation platforms, but also to cozy cafes.
